Radiator Gurgling and Noise – Cause and Solution

Gurgling or rushing noises are almost always caused by trapped air in the heating circuit. Solution: Bleed all radiators in the property one by one – start on the ground floor and work your way upwards. To do this, briefly open the bleed valve on each radiator until the hissing stops and water begins to flow. Afterwards, check the system pressure on the boiler (target value 1.5–2 bar) and top up the water if necessary – the refill point is usually located below the boiler. If the problem recurs frequently, there may be a leak somewhere in the system – in that case, call a qualified heating engineer.
