Windows PC Suddenly Very Slow – What to Do

Common causes include too many start-up programs, a full hard drive, or background processes overloading the CPU. Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and check under 'Processes' which programs are consuming the most CPU or RAM – right-click to end unnecessary processes. Disable start-up programs under Task Manager > 'Startup' by right-clicking unwanted entries and selecting 'Disable'. Make sure there is at least 10–15% free space on the system drive (C:); use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool to delete temporary files (press the Windows key and search for 'Disk Cleanup'). Finally, restart the PC – this alone is often enough to make a noticeable difference.
