Bicycle brake rubbing or squealing

Rubbing brake: brake pad or disc is touching the wheel when coasting. For rim brakes, correct the brake pad position – the pad must not touch the tyre sidewall. For disc brakes, re-centre the calliper by loosening and retightening the bolts (spin the wheel while doing so). Squealing is often caused by embedded dirt particles or glazed pads. Clean the rim or disc with isopropyl alcohol – do not use oils or sprays. If hydraulic lines are involved or braking performance is noticeably reduced, always visit a specialist workshop – brakes are safety-critical!
