Roller shutter strap broken – replace it yourself in a few easy steps

A broken strap can usually be replaced without any trouble. Buy a new strap of the correct width (commonly 14 mm or 23 mm – take the old strap along as a reference) and a new winder spring if the mechanism was stiff. Open the cover of the strap winder (usually a plastic flap or screws inside the roller shutter box). Attach the end of the new strap using the clip provided, or thread it through the eyelet on the winder and knot it. Wind the strap onto the drum in the direction shown by the arrow, then feed it through the wall opening. Connect the lower end to the shutter slats using the existing clip or loop. Test the operation before closing the cover. Warning: For electric roller shutters, remove the fuse first and call a qualified electrician – never work on live components.
