Removing Grease Stains from Fabric
Do not wet grease with water, as this sets the stain. Immediately sprinkle fresh grease stains generously with baking powder, cornstarch, or talcum powder and leave it for at least 30 minutes — the powder absorbs the grease. Brush off the powder, apply a little dish soap directly to the stain, work it in gently, and wash after 10 minutes. For old grease stains, gall soap or a pre-treatment spray can help; stubborn stains on silk or wool should be taken to a dry cleaner.
