Broken Guitar String — Replacing It Yourself

A broken string is easy to replace yourself. Buy a set of strings from a music shop that matches your instrument (e.g. acoustic, classical, or electric guitar). Remove the old string completely and wind the new one securely at the bridge and around the tuning peg — at least 2–3 winds for a secure hold. Trim any protruding wire ends with a string winder or pliers so you do not injure yourself. Then tune the string up gradually and stretch it as described above.
