Phone won't charge anymore – what to do?

If your phone isn't charging at all, or only charges when you wiggle the connector, the most common causes are a faulty charging cable or power adapter, or a dirty or worn-out charging port. Check in this order: 1) Replace the cable and adapter first: try charging with a different cable AND adapter – ideally genuine ones. If that works reliably, the cable was the culprit (the most common cause – cables often break internally near the connector). 2) Clean the charging port: the port frequently collects a plug of lint and dust that prevents the connector from clicking in fully, causing an intermittent connection. Turn the phone off and carefully remove any lint from the port using a wooden or plastic toothpick – never use anything metal to probe or scrape, never force anything into the port, and don't blast compressed air directly inside (this can push moisture or debris deeper in). 3) If the connector still feels loose afterwards, or the phone continues to charge only when wiggled, the port itself is worn or has come loose – take it to a repair shop for inspection or replacement. Software is rarely the cause, but a quick restart never hurts.
