Program Freezes or Stops Responding – How to Force-Close It

When a program freezes and stops responding in Windows, you need to close it manually without restarting the entire PC. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, click the unresponsive program in the list (it will often be marked as 'Not Responding') and select 'End Task'. Restart the program afterwards – in most cases it will work fine again. If a program freezes regularly, check whether updates are available for it, as bugs in older versions are frequently fixed through updates. If that doesn't help either, uninstall the program completely and reinstall it. If the entire PC freezes and Task Manager won't open, hold the power button for about 5 seconds to force a hard shutdown – then restart normally.
