Kettle is scaled up – descale easily without chemicals

Limescale builds up from hard water and significantly increases boiling time. The simplest method: fill with equal parts water and household white vinegar (5%), bring briefly to the boil, leave to soak for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly twice with fresh water and boil once with plain water. Alternatively, use citric acid powder (1–2 tsp per 1 litre of water). Never clean the outer surface of the heating element with abrasive sponges. Regular descaling every 4–8 weeks protects the heating element and saves energy.
