RCD Trips – What to Do?

The RCD (residual current device) trips when it detects a fault current – for example from a defective appliance or moisture at an outlet. Unplug all devices in the affected area. Push the RCD switch in the fuse box back up. Now plug devices back in one by one until the RCD trips again – that is the faulty device. Do not use that device any further; have it repaired or replaced. If the RCD trips with no devices plugged in, or if moisture is getting into sockets, call an electrician immediately – this is a serious safety hazard.
