Circuit Breaker Trips – What to Do?

A tripped circuit breaker indicates that too much current flowed through that circuit, or that a short circuit has occurred. First, switch off all devices on the affected circuit. Then go to the fuse box and flip the tripped circuit breaker (toggle switch) back on – it should click firmly into place. Plug devices back in one at a time to identify the one that is overloading or faulty. If the breaker trips again immediately or you notice a smell of burning, call an electrician without delay – this may indicate a short circuit or a faulty device, which can be dangerous.
