Door squeaking or dragging on the floor

Squeaking is caused by dry hinges: apply a drop of household oil, sewing machine oil, or silicone spray directly onto the hinge pins and swing the door back and forth several times. If the door drags on the floor, the hinges are loose or the wood has expanded. First, tighten all hinge screws. If that does not help, mark the rubbing area with a pencil, remove the door from its hinges, and sand down the marked edge with sandpaper (80-grit) or a plane. Afterwards, seal the cut edge with wood preservative varnish to prevent moisture from penetrating.
