Cordless Drill Battery Won't Charge or Holds No Charge

Common causes include deeply discharged cells, a faulty charger, or corroded contacts. First, check the contacts on the battery and charger for dirt or verdigris – clean them gently with a dry cloth or an eraser. Make sure the charger is plugged into a working outlet and that the indicator light responds. A deeply discharged battery can sometimes be 'revived' by briefly connecting it to the charger and waiting 5–10 minutes. If the battery shows no response after 1 hour of charging, or still only holds a charge for a short time, the cells are worn out – a replacement battery or professional cell replacement is needed. Warning: Never continue charging damaged or swollen Li-Ion batteries; they are a fire hazard – dispose of them immediately at a recycling centre.
