Compressor Not Building Pressure – Common Causes

Typical causes are a worn inlet valve, leaking hoses or fittings, or a clogged air filter. First, check all hose connections for leaks using soapy water – any leaks will show up immediately as bubbles. Clean or replace the intake air filter if it is visibly clogged. Check the drain valve on the tank: if it is slightly open, pressure cannot build up. Safety note: Never work on a pressurised system while residual pressure remains – fully release all pressure before opening any hoses or valves. Faulty pressure valves or a worn piston should be handled by a qualified workshop, as pressure vessels may be subject to mandatory inspection requirements.
