Chainsaw Won't Start – Causes and Solutions

The most common causes with petrol chainsaws are stale fuel mix, a clogged carburettor jet, or a wet or faulty spark plug. First, drain any old fuel (the petrol-oil mix should be renewed after 30 days at the latest) and refill with a fresh mix. Remove the spark plug, wipe it dry, and check the electrode gap (usually 0.5 mm) – if heavily sooted, replace it with a new one (standard plugs are inexpensive). Use the choke correctly during a cold start and keep the saw securely on the ground. Safety note: Never operate the saw with the chain brake engaged, and always wear protective equipment (gloves, cut-resistant clothing). If you suspect a carburettor problem, or if the saw still won't start after these steps, take it to a qualified service technician.
