Air Conditioning No Longer Cooling – Check the Simple Causes First

If the air conditioning is no longer cooling properly, the refrigerant level is often low or the cabin air filter (pollen filter) is clogged. Check the pollen filter first – it is usually located behind the glove box or under the windscreen and should be replaced annually or every 15,000 km (cost: £5–20 from a parts shop, straightforward DIY replacement using a guide). The air conditioning system should also be serviced every 2 years at a garage and the refrigerant topped up. For environmental reasons, topping up refrigerant is legally restricted to certified professionals – do not use refrigerant cans sold online. Have the system serviced at a qualified garage or air conditioning service provider.
