Windscreen wipers smear and streak – what to do?

Smearing windscreen wipers are usually caused by hardened rubber, dirt on the wiper blade edge, or a greasy windscreen cleaner. Start by cleaning the wiper rubbers with a damp cloth and a little isopropyl alcohol. Then clean the windscreen thoroughly with a glass cleaner. If these steps don't help, new wiper blades are needed – they are inexpensive and can be replaced in just a few minutes. When buying, make sure you get the correct length as specified in your vehicle's owner's manual.
