Smoke detector beeps every 30–60 seconds – what to do?
This regular single beep is almost always a low-battery warning and not an alarm. Replace the battery (usually a 9 V block or AA) immediately – smoke detectors must be operational at all times. After replacing the battery, press the test button for approximately 5 seconds to test the detector and stop the beeping. If the detector is older than 10 years, it should be replaced entirely, as the sensor degrades over time. If the beeping does not stop after replacing the battery, there may be a device fault – replace the detector immediately in that case.
