Restarting or Resetting Your Router – How to Do It Correctly

A restart (power cycle) resolves many temporary connection problems without any loss of settings. Step 1: Unplug the power cord or press the on/off switch on the router, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on – it takes about 2 minutes to fully boot up. Step 2: Only then test whether the internet is working again. Step 3: A 'factory reset' (using the reset button on the device, often held for 10 seconds) erases all personal settings such as the Wi-Fi name and password – only do this as a last resort. Step 4: After a factory reset, the Wi-Fi name, password, and any ISP login credentials must be re-entered – these can be found in your contract or on your provider's website. Step 5: Always note down your login credentials before performing a factory reset.
