Wi-Fi Keeps Dropping or Has a Weak Signal – What Helps

The cause is usually too much distance from the router, obstacles (thick walls, concrete ceilings), or interference from other wireless networks. Step 1: Place the router as centrally and as high up as possible – not hidden in cupboards or behind metal objects. Step 2: In the router settings, check that the channel is set to 'automatic' – if the 2.4 GHz band is congested, switching to 5 GHz often helps (shorter range but less interference). Step 3: Neighboring Wi-Fi networks often occupy the same channels; a free app such as 'WiFi Analyzer' (Android) shows which channels are in use. Step 4: For rooms further away, consider a Wi-Fi range extender or powerline adapters. Step 5: Update the router firmware via its admin interface (usually at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.178.1).
